· 1821 Bronze Medal,Order of St Patrick,George IV,Ireland,Issac Parkes

The featured item on our online shop this month is this 1821 George IV - Knights of the Order of St. Patrick Bronze Medal. Stuck in very high relief, this lovely example does show some signs of minor corrosion, particularly on the obverse; otherwise, the medal is extremely fine and rare. This medal was designed by medallist, Issac Parkes, a native of Birmingham, England, who moved to Ireland in 1807 and was apprenticed to his brother, a button manufacturer of Dublin. From about 1814 to the mid 1860s, Parkes designed numerous medals and tokens.

This bronze medal honours the The Knights of the Order of St. Patrick which was created in 1783 by King George III at the request of the then Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, The 3rd Earl Temple (later created Marquess of Buckingham).
