This glorious medal is in very fine condition with only one noticeable flaw in the blue enamel, above the F in the OF. The medal was presented to "L. BUCHANAN BY THE WHITEHAVEN DISTRICT I.O.O.F.M.U. AS A MARK OF APPRECIATION FOR VALUABLE SERVICE RENDERED WHILST ACTING AS PROV. G.M. DURING THE YEAR 1929" as engraved on the reverse.

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a non-political and non-sectarian international fraternal order of Odd Fellowship. It was founded in 1819 by Thomas Wildey in Baltimore, Maryland, United States and still exists today. Evolving from the Order of Odd Fellows founded in England during the 18th century, the IOOF was originally chartered by the Independent Order of Oddfellows Manchester Unity in England but has operated as an independent organization since 1842, although it maintains an inter-fraternal relationship with the English Order.[5] The order is also known as the Triple Link Fraternity, referring to the order's "Triple Links" symbol, alluding to its motto "Friendship, Love and Truth."

The medal, when removed from the ribbon, weighs 12.5 grams. The bar is also marked 9k gold, however, it cannot be removed from the ribbon to be weighed. The medals dimensions are 30 x 45 mm while the total length of the piece, including the ribbon and bar measures 9.7 cm.
